The furor over Bill 6 and the introduction of a carbon tax hasn't died down yet.

One local woman wants to get the provincial government to repeal the legislation while doing some good at the same time.

Diane Broderick has gotten together with Walker's Western Wear to have a petition on hand Sat.,Feb., 6.

She's asking anyone that would like to sign it to bring along a donation for the local food bank.

The man behind the petition John Clark says there are actually two petitions.

"One is asking for a plebiscite on Bill 6 and the other's asking for a plebiscite on carbon pricing taxation and the goal of the Bill 6 one is to hopefully have Bill 6 rescinded if the majority of Albertans prefer not to have had it and the goal on carbon pricing taxation is to halt the introduction of that and the rollout of that across Alberta," Clark says.

Clark says the carbon taxing formula would take anywhere from $3 to $6 billion our of Albertans pockets in direct costs to gas and electricity and heating costs and on all goods that are consumed because the cost of bring those good in will be increased by truckers and other companies who have to pay more.

He says the petitions will be presented to the government March 8, when the spring session of the legislature resumes.

Clark believes the government has to listen to the electorate.

"When they know that measures are likely unpopular with the electorate they're supposed to win their (the electorate's) trust and faith through a plebiscite and once they achieve over 50 per cent support for any particular measure they want to introduce then they can go ahead," he says.

The petition is going to be available from 10 until 4 at Walker's Western Wear.
