Women are being put front and centre as part of High River's Guy Weadick days this weekend.

Sam Mitchell says a big part of that is a quarter mile side saddle race that'll be held Saturday afternoon.

"Actually the saddles are amazingly secure when you have a bit of instruction, it looks a little counter intuitive and it's definitely, if you want to try it it's worth getting a couple of lessens," she says. "You can Youtube it, but I highly recommend getting some lessons from one of the accomplished women in our area, and we have some really great resources with Lee McLean and Michelle Rose and Holly Hardman and really some great history in the area that can help up and coming riders."

She says one of the great things about riding side saddle is the history behind it and the very restrictive rules and trying to succeed with-in those parameters.

Mitchell says the silk hat should always be called a silk hat and never a Topper, and should be not less than 5-1/2 but not more than 4-2/4.

There are ten ladies that will be racing, a couple show jumpers, a barrel racer, a couple of trick riders and Mitchell says besides being handy they're good looking too.

The race goes about 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
