After the Okotoks Show N' Shine, shelves at the Okotoks Food Bank are a little fuller.

The Food Bank set up a booth downtown during the event to help try to replenish its empty baskets.

Sheila Hughes, executive director at the Okotoks Food Bank, says she's very pleased with the donations that came in from the event.

"We received 385 pounds in food donations and $696 in cash donations... so we didn't quite fill the five ton truck but we sure put a dent in it."

Hughes says a lot of interest was shown in the Food Bank at the event with people stopping to talk, ask questions, and wanting to swing by the Food Bank's building to see how it operates.

Hughes says she's thankful for the support the community showed at the Show N' Shine.

"The organizers were fabulous so we're very grateful they invited us again," she says. "The participants were great, all the people who brought their cool cars down, it was really nice to see... and the residents who came out and supported us and stopped just to chat with us were fantastic."

Despite the donations brought in from the Show N' Shine, the Food Bank is still in need of donations.

Donations will also be accepted at the Vendor Affair Family Market happening Aug. 22  from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Okotoks Rec Centre. The event is family friendly and entry is made by bringing non-perishable food donations for the Food Bank.
