Kid's Cancer Care was the student-chosen charity to support by the Heritage Heights School as they hosted their "Shave Your Lid For A Kid," fundraising event Thursday, May 31.

Bailey Powell, Coordinator and Grade seven teacher at Heritage Heights, says her junior high leadership class had a hand in choosing the charity.

"It was really meaningful, getting everyone behind that one charity. These are the biggest events that they do, so we just decided to go big," she said.

Three children spoke about their personal experiences with cancer at the event, and delivered powerful messages to the packed gymnasium.

"One of them got sick when he was a year-and-half and was going through chemotherapy until he was four years old. That entire time, Kid's Cancer Care was supporting him, and even though he is cancer free today, they are still supporting him, which is pretty awesome," said Powell.

Stylists shaved and cut the hair of 39 kids and one teacher, with the school raising $38,500 for the cause, and some donating their hair to make wigs for kids.
