Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools is making the most of infrastructure funding offered by the province back in May.

They've secured $2.6 million for 21 projects across the division, spanning from Canmore to Oyen.

Associate Superintendent Michael Kilcommons says much of it will be put to use here in the Foothills.

"At JPII (John Paul II) for example, a new movable stage wall, LED lights and washrooms at Holy Trinity, new flooring in quite a few classrooms and hallways, both at Holy Trinity and St. Mary's, we're replacing some of the roof, re-shingling."

Another project bolstered by the new funding is the ongoing work on the Good Shepherd School gym.

He says it's given the division a chance to catch up with some projects that were on the back-burner.

"Every single project was on our to-do list, but some of them were in the three to five-year plan. We knew that we wanted to replace, for example, some of the washroom fixtures at JPII, or replacing LED lights, but it's one of those things where 'it's good to do, we should do it, but we'll get around to it when we've got the funds,' so we basically accelerated some of these plans."

With classes having ended early due to COVID, Kilcommons says some of the projects are already wrapped.

"They were all initiated over the summer. Some are finished, some are continuing, one or two are still in the planning stages, trying to line up the trades and whatnot, but everything will be going ahead."
