Education costs keep rising and the Foothills School Division is looking at ways to bring in more revenue.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says that's why they're working to set up the Foothills School Division Foundation and a Grant Writing Program.

"Both of those posts, or assignments are being combined into one to begin, to be able to do the legal framework of setting up that foundation while concurrently starting to write those grant applications that we feel will align with our priorities as a school division, which would be engagement of students, perhaps literacy numeracy as well and a focus on our CTS courses and those options would be built into those grants as well," Fuzessy says.

He says many of the grants they apply for have a matching component so it's hoped the foundation can bring in money that would be used for that.

Fuzessy says they're going through the process of posting the grant writing position and will get into the hiring process in the next couple of weeks and hope to have in filled by mid-August.

He says setting up the foundation could take six to nine months to accomplish all the legal requirements.
