The Town of Okotoks is showing it's support for Fort McMurray as it continues to battle a blaze that seems almost impossible to put out.

The size of the fire that has been burning since Sunday has grown to over 85,000 hectares which around the same surface area as the City of Calgary, destroying homes, businesses and well being.

Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson says the Town is behind Fort Mac.

"I think all of Alberta and all of Canada is behind the devastation that's occurring right now in Fort McMurray," he says. "It's very troubling our thoughts and prayers are with all of the folks who have either or still in or around Fort McMurray or evacuated elsewhere."

Robertson adds saying as he's watching the latest developments up North he couldn't even imagine the struggles communities are having up north.

"Many have realized their homes have been destroyed also not knowing if they can go back to their place of business and still have employment so it's been a total catastrophe which is going to affect all of Canada."

He says he has been in contact with the Mayor of Fort McMurray Melissa Blake with the Town ready to lend a helping hand at a moments notice.

"We've all put in e-mails to her perhaps offering assistance or moral support. They're on hold right now they don't know exactly what they need I think the strong and clear message is that if people wish to make a donation it would be through the Canadian Red Cross designated for the Fort McMurray wild fires."
