The winter snow in the mountains is well into its runoff and that has local rivers up a bit.

High River's Emergency Management Director Carly Benson says there's nothing to worry about.

"As the snow is melting from the mountains we're getting all that melting contributing to high water in the Highwood, but it is within normal ranges, so the upper end of normal but still within what's normal for this time of year," she says. "But because the river is high because of snow melt that means it's running quite fast and it's very cold, and so the advisory that was put out by Calgary is advising people to stay off the river because if you happen to fall in hypothermia would be much more likely."

She says it's also too fast for most activities people would want to engaged in on the water.

Benson says now with rain in the forecast and the warm temperatures continuing the snow melt she's hoping for a quiet June.
