Another sign of progress in High River as homes in the Wallaceville area have come down over the last week.

And Saturday the iconic landmark, the River Roadhouse came down.

Former owner Emile Blokland says he had mixed emotions.

"In a way I'm glad it's been knocked down because it hurt seeing it with the shutters and everything on it," he says. "There's a lot of memories in that building, for me especially, it's a part of our past but moving forward, the town of High River, we're moving forward."

He says it's also a sign the town can start to move ahead as the area is returned to its natural state.

The government has said the whole area will be cleared by the end of December this year.
