A recent crime spree in the town of High River may have been one reason Thursday night's Police Committee Open House drew a very good crowd.

Concerns about the numbers of police officers in the town and surrounding area, break-ins, robberies and the drug trade were all brought up by members of the public in attendance.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Robin Alexander says being more visible is something they've improved on but there are still areas where they can be better.

"Absolutely and we're going to continue to try to get out amongst the community, as part of the community, build relationships of trust, we're going to be a more effective police force if we get to know the community better," he says.

Staff Sgt. Alexander says they need people in the community to watch out for one another.

"We are a finite number and we can't be everywhere at all times," he says. "Most of our crimes are solved by people calling in suspicious behaviours and that's the reality."

He told those assembled RCMP are close to laying charges in three of the more recent high profile crimes and a man has already been arrested in Medicine Hat in connection with a series on car jacking's on Friday February 12.

The RCMP will use the issues brought up at the open house to help them put together their Annual performance Plan for the next year.
