The Town of High River has a Recreation Assistance program geared to help kids aged 4 to 18 participate in organized sports and other recreational programs.

Community Programmer Jocelyn Edwards says families can receive funding of up to $300 per year, per child and there are a couple steps to follow.

"You just need to have an endorser sign your application saying your child would benefit from this program. you don not have to submit a Notice of Assessment which is really unique for any fee assistance programs."

She says that an application must also be submitted and are available at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex or online.

She says there are also free activities every Sunday from 2 to 5 pm where people can use the pool or participate in free sports time at the Cargill Field House.

She says the program is unique in that it doesn't require families to submit a Notice of Assessment, all they need do is simply apply.

Edwards says each child not household, can receive up to $300 per year to cover enrollment and equipment costs and adds there are activities that are free.

"Every Sunday from 2 until 5pm the pool has a free swim and the Field house is also free sports. The Field house free sports time is sponsored by Canadian Red Cross and the swim is sponsored by the High River District Health Care Foundation."
