Residents can give back to the community while recognizing their loved ones.

The Sheep River Health Trust's Points of Light campaign allows residents to make a purchase towards lighting up trees at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre and Oilfields Hospital.

Andrea Mitchell, executive director of the Sheep River Health Trust, says taking part in the campaign is a great way to say thank you.

"You can make a purchase to remember someone special, thank a friend or a neighbour, or make a donation as a Christmas card or present, welcome a new baby, or thank a teacher," she says. "The idea is you buy it in the name of someone then we light up a tree at the Health and Wellness Centre and Oilfields Hospital to remember those special people in your life."

Mitchell says money raised from the campaign will go back into the community.

"We support five different gifts through this campaign. Seniors, community programs, equipment, youth and family's, and you can direct your donation to where you'd like that support to go but if you don't it goes into our general fund and we purchase equipment for the hospitals and support different community organization promoting health and wellness in the Foothills."

Purchases for Points of Light can be done over the phone by calling (403) 995- 5400 or online.
