The big night is here and the High River RCMP want to make sure it remains fun for all the little ghosts and ghouls.

Staff Sergeant Robin Alexander says drivers need to be aware that the kids are out there gathering up their loot.

"There's lots of youngsters running across streets and down streets and dashing to and fro trying to fill up their treat bags and so we want our presence to serve as a reminder that, not only do we want people to follow all the appropriate traffic laws but to exercise extra caution," he says. "We always see lots of youth running around and unexpectedly darting out in the middle streets so motorists need to be aware of that for sure."

He says there are some areas where there's been a lot of construction and there are few, if any working street lights.

Staff Sgt. Alexander says they're suggesting smaller children be accompanied by adults or another responsible person and that they have some kind of reflective tape on their candy bags or costumes.

"We always suggest, and most parents are pretty good about this, go through the goody bags before the kids tie into them," Staff Sgt Alexander says. "Every year we hear rumours of noxious things being included in candies and treats, we've never actually confirmed that, but it's certainly recommended to see what they're collecting."

He says traditionally there haven't been a lot of problems with vandalism and he hopes that continues this year.
