It was a day of history, discovery and remembrance at the Highwood Cemetery in High River on Saturday, July 28.

Museum of the Highwood Curator Irene Kerr along with volunteers, led a tour into the cemetery and told stories about interesting characters from the towns past.

Kerr says each year they explore a new theme with the residents.

"This year our theme is quirky characters, and we know from our experience with High River history that there is a ton of interesting people who are not buried in the Highwood Cemetery."

Kerr says re-telling local stories, even if some history is lost or hard to pinpoint, is an essential part of the historical process.

"High River is just a hotbed of interesting stories, everyone wants to be remembered I think, so we are just doing our bit in perpetuating the memories of the amazing people that lived here."

The event was attended by over 40 guests, and was followed by an exhibition at The Museum of the Highwood.
