The Federal Government will make good on a campaign promise and lower the small business tax rate from 11 to nine per cent by 2019.

High River Chamber of Commerce President Steven Muth says unfortunately the Trudeau Liberals had to be dragged into it kicking and screaming.

"Governments always do just enough to get themselves re-elected, and I feel that in this case that has what has happened. The business community has stood up and said "We've been pushed around enough the past number of years. We're going to speak with our votes in 2019" and now the current administration is in back pedal mode."

Muth says it's also encouraging the Feds are making noises about modifying their tax changes to small corporations, but he says until the legislation is actually tabled it's just guesswork.
