The Town of Okotoks' Public Safety and Security Committee has hosted an invitation only event aimed at members of the community to discuss their perception of the top four concerns that need to be addressed in Okotoks.

Town Councillor, Tanya Thorn, says they had a great turnout, and were able to identify four major areas to explore further.

"Drugs in the community, theft and burglary, those were the top two by a lot. The next two were vandalism and traffic safety, both from the pedestrian and cyclist side of it," she said.

The results of the discussion will be formed into a report that will be presented back to the participants to ensure all the information was captured, and will assist in further development of the RCMP Annual Performance and Municipal Enforcement Plans.

Thorn says although the information is vital and contributes to future planning, the community efforts are important, as well.

"What can we do to help, because it's not just about municipal enforcement and policing. We, as a community, also have a role to play, in terms of keeping our community safe," she said.

Once the information is presented back to the participants for clarity, another community discussion will take place to gather additional feedback.
