Presidents Choice Children's Charities has selected a High River family, as the recipients of $20,000 to assist them in making their van compatible for their wheelchair bound five year old son Kazmeir.

Owner and Manager of High River No Frills Stephen Charland, says he'll present the cheque to the family on Friday, August 5 at 11 am at the No Frills grocery store.

"They have a child with some disabilities and we're going to be presenting a $20,000 cheque on behalf of Presidents Choice Children's Charities, and Stephens No Frills to make a minivan compatible for a wheelchair."

He says it will cost at least $25,000 to convert their existing van or they can use the money to go towards a new or used van that is already modified.

Vicki Hanlon is Kazmeirs Mother, and she says her son is a happy five year old even though his condition is unique.

"It's a condition called Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum or ACC. Basically it's a brain deformation, he's actually missing a complete, and entire piece in his brain. A typical person has a left and right hemisphere that communicate to each other where Kazmir is different is he has a left and right hemisphere, but nothing to channel the communication between both sides."

She says they're having a huge bake sale in conjunction with the BBQ at No Frills to help bridge the gap and make up the difference and help pay for a used vehicle.

Owner of No Frills Stephen Charland says they're excited to have someone locally chosen by the charity.

"Here we've gotten fortunate and have been able to hit one out of the park. We received the big $20,000 cheque to make this family's life a little bit easier and just to be able to give back a little.

He says they're holding a BBQ after the presentation, and adds that 100% of the proceeds will also be given to the family.

If anyone is interested in donating to Kazmeir, the family has established an account in his name "KazKar" at the High River Bank of Montreal.
