The premier isn't letting the cat out of the bag just yet but it looks like there may not be any changes to the Municipal Sustainability Initiative or MSI funding.

The MSI grants help towns and cities with their capital needs.

After speaking with the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties Tuesday in Jasper Rachel Notley gave an indication it won't change.

"I'm not going to disclose the budget but I will say what I did talk about today is stability, predictability and no surprises so I think you can draw some pretty clear conclusions from that," the Premier said.

Notley says she and her government want to consult with stakeholders so there are no big surprises for them when the budget comes out April 14.

"You're not going to see a situation where suddenly we introduce a budget with massive changes that nobody ever saw coming or that nobody was engaged on or that nobody was consulted on," she says. "Will we always agree at the end of the day on every change we make, perhaps not, but people and citizens and key stakeholders will always be given the opportunity to be fully heard and we'll try to canvass as creatively and collaboratively as possible, the best path forward to come to the best solution."

She says the government's still learning but wants to make the principle of no surprises to be something that they do as often as possible.
