FortisAlberta is joining the ranks of crews who are updating and refreshing utilities in High River.

Mona Bartsoff, a corporate communications advisor with FortisAlberta, says between now and October crews will be improving the underground cable networks in the town.

More than 16,600 metres of line are being upgraded.

"We will be rejuvenating it by injecting a silicone product, and so really what the product does is it improves the insulation of the cable," she says. "It will extend the life span of the power line by about 40 years."

She says in some areas where the cable's been spliced they may have to tear up more property but they'll let homeowners know in advance and will return it to its previous state.

There may also be some short power outages where the work is being done.

FortisAlberta will be delivering notices directly to the residents that may be affected by this work and will notify customers if there is a possibility that crews will disturb any vegetation or landscaping. FortisAlberta will remediate the areas requiring excavation to the best of their ability once the work is completed.
