The Town of Turner Valley was very excited to hear a Calgary company's pitch of a fibre optic network, providing high speed internet service at their last council meeting.

Axis says they'll build the network if they can get about 30% of the Town's population to sign up for their service first.

Mayor Kelly Tuck says it should be an easy sell, given the slow internet service already in place.

"Our only provider out here today is Telus. So I phone them all the time and say 'how come, you know, I'm paying for the optimum plan, but I'm getting like dial-up service?' And they always say, 'Oh no, your're not getting that.' Well, when I'm trying to upload a file from the Municipal Office, or a picture from my grandchildren, and it takes a long time? Oh, yeah, to have another option? Made me very happy today."

Tuck says the best part is Axis will build the network at no cost to the Town.
