The most pressing police needs in High River will be up for discussion tonight, Thursday February 18, at the Police Committee's open house.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Robin Alexander says no issue the public brings forward is too trivial to be considered as the force prepares it's annual list of goals

He says the RCMP's year runs from April to March and through the open house each year they're able to determine what the town wants in terms of policing and they take those very broad ideas and goals and trying to work toward achieving and objective that can be quantified with statistics each year.

"Last year we focused on trying to reduce injury collisions which would have come out of a public consultation process, as well as some other items," he says. "My job at the detachment level, in my position is to make sure we're we are channelling our energies towards these on a day to day and week to week basis so that we don't lose sight of our goals."

He says part of reducing injury accidents was stepping up enforcement on seatbelt use and cracking down on distracted driving.

The open house starts at 7 p.m. at the High River Library.
