High River's Policing Committee will hold its annual open house February 16 at the library.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Robin Alexander says they, like every detachment, have to put together an Annual Performance Plan and community feedback is part of that.

"We work on a fiscal year which is April to April, and part of that process is consulting with the community, getting their thoughts as to what our priorities should be over the next year," he says. "We work these into a plan and I set some tangible goals to try and map or measure our progress throughout the year."

Sgt. Alexander delivers those stats to the Policing Committee each month and quarterly to the town council.

"We always have a traffic-related initiative but beyond that we really open it up to what the local concerns are, so we're busy enforcing jaywalking when nobody thinks that's an issue," Staff Sergeant Alexander says.

He says last year drugs in the community, a more visible presence in the community at public events and school zone patrols were all brought up as issues to be addressed.

The open house will be held at 7 p.m. at the High River Library's W.O. Mitchell room Thursday February 16, 2017.
