The Town of Okotoks and the MD of Foothills have come to an agreement and plan over the proposed annexation plan.

Members from the two municipalities attended a open house Wednesday night.

Jamie Dugdale Sr. Planner for the town of Okotoks says that they were thinking about both municipalities when making this proposed plan.

"It will benefit both municipalities by allowing them to realize their growth goals that they want to grow to in the future," Dugdale says.

Dugdale says that the two municipalities had growth goals in mind when they started the process.

The growth goals and areas were also a main thought in making the plan.

"There are areas that the town originally tried to annex, that we stepped away from because they were key growth areas for the MD of Foothills."

The Town of Okotoks backed away from lands along Highway 7 and 2A that are important to the M.D.

Dugdale says that they are hoping for the plan to be approved by earlier 2017 and than the next step would be to change some of the towns bi-laws.

"To say that you can continue to farm and do what you doing, we aren't taking anything away from you in the short to medium term, but basically we are wanting to keep things the same in that rural area," Dugdale says.
