Alberta Environment Minister Shannon Phillips is criss-crossing the province trying to sell the NDP's new carbon tax.

She says obviously not everyone's excited about it, but she says there's an upside.

"Certainly we've had a lot of really great conversations with low and middle income Albertans, with seniors groups, non-profits and charities and others. Folks are really quite excited about the new investments that are going to come about as a result of this."

Phillips says the biggest question she's getting is how much people will be getting back and what's the cut-off.

In 2017 the rebates are $200 for a single person making under $45,000/year, or $300 for a couple making less than $95,000/year combined.

We'll get our first rebate cheques in January.
