One High River resident has started an online petition to save the Town's water tower.

Monique Esposito, says she grew up in High River and says there's not much history left in the Town since the flood and would like to save one of the few pieces left.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says if there's enough people wanting to get involved and they can come up with a viable plan, he's willing to listen.

Esposito says, she's on it.

"So far I've started the petition to get them to re-evaluate the cost to restore the old tower. That's my first step. Then my second step is getting that financial plan ready to go for the restoration."

The Town pegs the cost of restoring the water tower at $2.5 million dollars, with another $50,000 a year to maintain it.

She says there's already a lot of buzz around the issue and has launched an on-line petition looking for support.

"I think that I can get people rallied to save this. I don't only have people in High River. I also have musicians available in Calgary and High River willing to do a benefit concert to save it. And I'm willing to roll up my sleeves, so game on!"

Esposito says because the decision to tear down the water tower was made by the previous council and approved, the Town is perfectly within their rights to bring it down at any time.

So she's aware the clock is ticking.

"Yes I am, and I'm even willing to even go door to door to get petitions signed. That's how passionate I am to save it."

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass says this needs to be more than people pressing the "like" button on Facebook.

He says there needs to be real involvement from a significant number of people before he or council will take action.
