Both a home under construction and a showhome on Sheep River Cove in Okotoks were reduced to smoking rubble overnight, Monday, March 13.

Fire crews were quick to arrive and Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the people in one of the adjacent homes managed to get away safely.

"There were people there at the time. From what I can see, I haven't been told of any damage to that home. But the family has chosen to stay somehwere else, and we'll keep a crew on scene to keep an eye out for hot spots, just in case they get a re-kindle."

He says he thinks the fire started in the home under construction, quickly spreading to the show home, who's heat was being provided by a propane tank in the home being built.

"It (the fire) crept up the south side of the show home and went up over top and inside. Lot's of water damage to the showhome itself."

No one was hurt in the blaze.
