It's almost time for the hot air balloons to begin drifting over the Town of High River.

The Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival gets underway on Wednesday, September 27th and it promises to be an exciting few days.

Organizer Jamie Kinghorn says they are short 20 volunteers and they could always use some extra help.

"We got to 28 balloons and we would love to get a few more volunteers out because the more you have the easier it is on the pilots," said Kinghorn.

This year they are also selling balloon rides to the public.

"Because it is during the event. I can say it is a lot more fun when you are flying with a whole bunch of balloons all around you as opposed to going out on a single flight. You get some great pictures of balloons beside you, above you, below you, it is an amazing adventure."

This year is a competition year so the balloons will be launching from two different locations on Thursday and Friday.

"The competition guys will be using a different location to launch from and the fiesta guys will be launching from the Adams property."

The Adams property is on the very west end of Macleod Trail.

And of course everyone's favourite event the balloon glow will be back Friday night on the Spitzee School Playground.

The shelter from the wind there helps to ensure the event can go.
