A group from Calgary that's a part of Be Fit for Life has branched off into the Foothills.

PLAY Foothills has a goal of giving people of all ages the opportunity to learn how to move their bodies in a confident and competent way by helping to motivate, build confidence and physical competence, knowledge, and understanding of movement.

Tracy Morgan, co-founder of PLAY Foothills, says physical literacy is the ABC's of physical activity like jumping, throwing, and running many may assume everyone can do.

"If they don't know and understand how to do it properly they aren't confident, competent, or feel motivated to do physical activity so the more we can get children to have the grassroots of those fundamental movement skills the more likely they and adults are to be active for life."

PLAY Foothills is looking to bring together sports organizations, educators, members of AHS, parents, and those who are just interested in promoting physical literacy.

Morgan says the Calgary group sees people from all sectors take part which has been hugely beneficial for them.

"It's amazing what ideas come about when you bring all these sectors together because we're quite siloed," she explains. "Recreation kind of sticks with recreation, education sticks with education, so when we start to bring all these groups together we realize we're all in it for the same reason and we can work towards a common goal."
