The Town of High River is inviting everyone to come out to an open house Wednesday June 1 on the Town's Land Use By-law.

Melissa Ayers with McElhanny Consulting, which is working with the town on the by-law, says dealing with land uses is very important for how the town will look and operate in the future.

"The Town's done a lot of work so far in terms of their planning and their growth and they've defined some key goals based on smart growth principals for how they want to see the town grow," Ayers says. "The Land Use By-law's the implementation tool so it's the one that sets all the rules that will basically create the vision."

Ayers says the by-law divides the land in the municipality into districts that set out what uses can happen in certain areas such as residential, industrial, and commercial properties. But it also sets out rules like how far back from a road a building needs to be, how high a building can be and how close they can be to one another.

She says they hope to gather more feedback this summer before a public hearing is held by the end of this year.

The open house goes at the Highwood Memorial Centre from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday June 1.
