The Foothills MD and the City of Calgary are hosting another open house to show off changes that have been made to the Intermunicipal Development Plan.

Senior planner with the MD Julie McLean says after receiving feedback at an open house in March, and some analysis that was done, the growth area for the city has been changed.

"So the growth area for the city's quite a bit smaller than what we had previously shown back in March and there's some different policy around what would be allowed in terms of sub-division in that area," she says. "With the growth area, the main criteria is they try to avoid what they call fragmentation, so they want to keep the parcel sizes as big as possible so going forward anyone who's in that identified growth area, there would be restrictions imposed on future subdivision."

She says the timelines for expansion of the city have also changed.

"Originally we had been looking at a 20 to 25 year time frame before the city would consider annexation but we're thinking it might be quite a bit sooner with the new information that we have on the city's growth and how that's progressing, so we're thinking that's probably going to be more in the range of 7 to 15 years," McLean says.

She says there's often confusion surrounding the Intermunicipal Development plans and what's intended. She says the land will remain under the Foothills MD's jurisdiction for the foreseeable future until an actual annexation application is filed. And development or subdivision applications would still be handled by the MD.

The open house goes at the Dewinton Community Hall from 4 to 8pm Thursday October 27, 2016.
