The On-It Regional Public Transportation System is getting ready to make trips between Calgary and the communities of High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, and Okotoks.

Regional Transportation Program Manager Ettore Iannacito says they are working very hard to get things running in the fall.

"Well, we're still moving forward. Our implementation date is still September of this year, so I think we're still on track for that September target."

He says there's still a few things to be done.

"We're still working on the marketing side of it, the campaign side of it, and we're in the middle of trying to find a private sector service provider to run the service for us. So, we're in the middle of all of that."

Iannicito says September will be the start of a two year pilot program.

"The launch of the Regional Transit System is very exciting for the four participating municipalities and for the City of Calgary. And, we're looking to expand it if it's successful. So, we're confident that it will be successful and we'll try it out for two years. So right now we're working hard and we're very excited about it."

The transit system will run weekdays as a commuter service during peak morning and evening hours between the Somerset-Bridlewood LRT station in Calgary and the participating municipalities.
