An old, iconic landmark from Calgary is going to be making its way to High River.

The River City Classics Car Club has purchased the old Eamon's gas station that once stood in the northwest part of Calgary on the way to Cochrane.

The gas station had to be moved to make way for the expansion of the northwest LRT line.

The club's president, Jeff Langford says all the paperwork's done.

"We've got an approval e-mail that we've got the building, so it's just a matter of working on funds to get the building moved," he says. "We're applying for some funding with the Town, there's a Heritage fund that we can apply that with."

He says the idea behind buying it is to use it as their club house and have it open through the week in conjunction with the Tractor Museum so people can take a look inside and they'll also have a rotating classic vehicle museum behind the gas station.

The Eamon's gas station will go beside the Tractor Museum at the Ag Grounds

Right now the building is sitting, well preserved, in Stavely so they have to come up with the costs of moving the old art deco building to the Ag Grounds and then refurbishing it.

"We're working on funding, so any corporate donors that want to put either time or money, or concrete, Stu Garrioch has already volunteered to do cribbing for us, Herman Groenewold has volunteered to do the excavating," he says. "But anybody that's got services that they could offer, we have another guy that possibly can do some electrical, but ya, anybody in town that can help us with the construction and moving and refurbishing, we'd really appreciate it."

He says moving it will cost about $25,000.
