Goodger-Pink Family Theatre had a performance-packed 2017, and they are looking forward to their line-up for the new year.

Artistic Producer Samantha Duff says they were able to offer three family-friendly affordable theatre productions over the past year, compared to two in previous years.

That included a spring performance of Princess Confidential, an outdoor summer show of Princess and the Pea, and a world premiere performance of Peter Pan and the Secret Key for their winter production at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre.

The winter production is presented in partnership with the Rotary Performing Arts Centre and Okotoks Culture and Heritage.

"2017 has been an amazing year for us and we definitely could not have done it without the community support," Duff says. "We are so, so proud to be able to say that we, for the first time ever in the five years we've been doing this, we sold out multiple shows of Peter Pan and the Secret Key."

Duff founded Goodger-Pink Family Theatre in 2013, when she returned to Okotoks after attending University in Edmonton. She was inspired by fond memories of her childhood in Okotoks, attending performances of an improv troupe with her family in Ethel Tucker Park. She saw an opportunity to bring family-friendly theatre for all ages to town.

She says that families often make the summer outdoor shows an event, with many bringing picnics for before the shows and staying afterwards to throw frisbees around and enjoy the summer weather.

Since those first years of Goodger-Pink Family Theatre, Duff says she's enjoyed seeing the arts and culture scene in Okotoks flourish.

"I can't believe how much there is just in our community alone to experience," she points out. "People work really hard to bring it to the community and their hard work is very much appreciated. I love being in a community that values the arts and culture like we do."
