Local talent Michela Sheedy will be taking her cowboy boots and guitar onto the Calgary Stampede's Coke Stage next month.

Sheedy began performing at markets in Okotoks and local talent shows when she was 12, which blossomed into her competing at the Calgary Stampede Talent Search and the Nashville North Star competitions.

The past two years the Okotoks born and raised singer/songwriter made the finals at Nashville North, and while Stampede isn't holding the competition again this year, they instead invited her to be part of the Coke Stage line up.

She says the Coke Stage announcement adds to a great year.

"In the past year and a bit it's been a little bit crazy. I've travelled to my first Canadian Country Music Awards and attended two Alberta Country Music Awards. It's been quite the roller coaster and I'm excited for the future, it's going to be a lot of fun."

Sheedy says she'll be performing both original pieces and covers.

"People go to Stampede and they go to certain places like Nashville North and sometimes the Coke Stage for those classics they're going to know and want to sing along to. It's a party atmosphere, obviously still keeping it family friendly," she explains. "It is a family friendly venue at the Coke Stage which I'm very excited about because my little sister can come and watch."

Her Coke stage performance is set for July 16 at 12:30 p.m.
