The Town of Okotoks will be showcasing its strong hockey following and sense of community on a national level in the New Year.

The town has been selected as one of 25 locations across the country to host the Hometown Hockey Tour.

The event will roll into Okotoks for two days featuring local celebrities, NHL alumni, family activities, and a live broadcast with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone of the Calgary Flames versus Ottawa Senators game.

Okotoks Town Councilor Tanya Thorn, says the event will be a great platform to show off the community.

"It's hugely exciting for our community to get to showcase our community passion, what our community does on a national stage.So I think that's super exciting."

Other Alberta locations selected for Hometown Hockey include Lethbridge, Leduc, Strathcona County, and the Enoch Cree Nation near Edmonton.

Hometown Hockey will take place Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, Februrary 24, 2019.
