Okotoks is ready to fill your bowl and your stomach with Chili Fest.

On Saturday, August 27, the day will kick off with the Artisan Market Square at 10:00 A.M. and the chili sampling with start at 11 A.M.

This year 15 different teams have entered their secret recipes.

Mark Doherty, community event coordinator for the Town of Okotoks, says the funds raised from the cook off are going towards a specific project.

"All profits from the chili cook off go back to Dr. Morris Gibson School and what they're trying to do is refurbish their playground equipment. Yes it's for the school, it's in the school yard, but it's really for the whole community, lots of families use that playground so it's a real community effort to bring this playground and upgrade it and put new equipment in."

After tasting the different chili, samplers are able to cast their vote for the People's Choice Awards.

Doherty says they'll be continuing to include an eco-friendly concept that was introduced last year.

"The Town of Okotoks took the green initiative last year and we have a biodegradable cup and spoon that we serve so even though it's covered in chili all that can be composted and taken away from the landfill site. It's a great green initiative, we're very excited about it, we're going to continue with that and continue to green our events."

Elizabeth St. will be closed from the Veteran's way up to Northridge Dr. intersections on Saturday for the event.
