The Okotoks Oilers are hoping to pack the stands with purple at their home game Friday night, in memory of Tara Roe.

Oilers Business Manager Dawn LeMaistre says the team will donate five dollars from each ticket sold to the Roe family.

She notes that the loss of Roe, who was an employee of the Foothills School Division and an active volunteer for local minor hockey, has affected many in our community.

"It doesn't matter whether you're in the public school system, in the separate school system, whether you're a minor hockey player or on one of our junior or elite teams here in town, I think the whole town has been impacted by the sudden loss and the tragic events that happened for her family," LeMaistre says. "And we just want to be there to show our community support for them.

She says money raised from Friday's event will go towards purchasing gift cards from local grocery stores to help support the family in the months to come. In addition to donating a portion of ticket sales, LeMaistre says the Oilers are also planning a ceremonial puck drop as well as a moment of silence to start Friday's game.

"We've done very specific tickets for the event and are looking to have everybody wear purple to support the cause."

The Okotoks Oilers will be taking on the Fort McMurray Oil Barons at the Pason Centennial Arena Friday, October 13 starting at 7 p.m. for the Tara Roe Memorial game.
