With its shelves emptying at an alarming rate, the Okotoks Food Banks hopes to bring in a big haul at the Okotoks Show and Shine on Sunday.

In fact, Executive Director Sheila Hughes says they'll have a five-ton truck on hand to help collect donations.

"We're really hoping to fill it as much as possible with non-perishable food items," she says. "Or, we're gladly accepting cash donations as well that will help us buy the food that we are in need of right now."

Hughes says if you decide to bring any non-perishables to donate on Sunday, there are a few specific items that are needed the most.

"We need canned soup, canned vegetables, fruit, pasta, any kind of baked beans or other kind of beans," she says. "We need one litre containers of juice, mac and cheese-boxed mac and cheese we are in desperate need of-and dried pasta."

Just three months after a very successful food drive, the Okotoks Food Banks' shelves are alarmingly under-stocked.

Hughes says with the Summer coming to a close, items are also needed for student's lunches.

"Any school items," she says.  "Single-serving items like canned tuna and crackers, peanut butter crackers, juice, granola bars, trail mix-anything that's easy to eat."

All entrants into the Show and Shine are charged a $10 fee, but are also asked to make a food donation as well.

The Show and Shine runs Sunday in Olde Towne Okotoks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
