It was a busy 2015 for the Okotoks Fire Department.

They responded to over 1000 different calls that don't just include fire emergencies which above last year's totals.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says there were a couple of big fires in and out of town his team responded to this year.

"Couple notable events that we had, the Bullpen fire in May, we had some large grass fires in and around our community, we had one out in Blackie, we had some grass fires north and south of us that we responded to as well."

While the number of fire calls during the year may have been at time for the Fire Department, Thevenot says the department will take that every time when it comes to the overall safety of the public.

"We had a few other structure fires in the smaller nature, some of them bigger, but the notable one was the Bullpen fire."

The fire at the pub lead to the eventual tear down of the building which used to be the old creamery building back in the early 1900's.

Thevenot says 2015 also saw many highs within the department.

"We graduated six out of our level one and two fire fighter program out of our community fire fighters so that was a great success for us," he says. "We had some great events we attended this year from the Dawgs baseball games for our Fill The Boot Campaign, we made donations to the Alberta Breast Cancer Foundation at those games."

Thevenot added that his department will be stepping up their weekly training regiment this coming year so his crew is ready for anything thrown at their direction.
