It was busy for the Okotoks Fire Department during the week of Christmas.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the department had their highest number of calls for the month so far.

"We had one fire response, 12 medical responses, one public hazard, we had eight alarm system activations which is a little up and the bulk of our calls last week," he says. "Eight activations seem to be a little bit higher than normal then we had four vehicle collisions to deal with."

The overall number of calls for the year has gone up for the department by over 50 call at this point in 2014.

"Total response to date is 1059, last year at this time we were at 992 which is a difference of 67 call that we're ahead of from last year."

Thevenot says he hopes all residents have a safe and Happy New Year and encourges everyone to take in the fire works display at Lineham Park on New Year's Eve.
