Tanya Thorn will be representing the Town of Okotoks on a very significant level for the next little while.

Thorn, a Town Councillor, was elected to the Town's South Chair on the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Board of Directors at the annual AUMA Conference Friday, October 7.

She says she was a little surprised at the final results for the seat but says she's looking forward to the task at hand.

"My fellow councillors worked hard to make sure that my name was out there so I really do appreciate them," she says. "I'm really honoured to be representing Towns South on this particular board I think it's a great opportunity for not only us as Okotoks to bring some of the wisdom we have to that table but also to learn from some of my colleagues."

Thorn is the first Okotoks Councillor to sit on the AUMA Board since 1997, and says it will be quite the experience and transition period when she heads to her first meeting next month.

"My intent is to sit at that table and get a handle of what they've been working on. Everyone else have been at it for a while so they're picking up the work and going forward."

She hopes with her experience within the Town will help the AUMA down the road.

"These first couple of meetings is to get a handle of what they've been working on, where are they at and how I can provide some insight or assistance in those endeavours."

Thorn beat out Councillor Tara McFadden with the Town of Cochrane and Coaldale Mayor Kim Craig.
