Chatters Hair Salon in Okotoks is supporting the Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter.

The store is holding its annual hair appliance trade-in event where any hair appliances that are brought in and still work will be donated to the women's shelter and the donors will receive up to a $20 discount off a new appliance if they wish in return.

Emily Wattman, retail manager at Chatters Okotoks, says even if people don't wish to receive a discount to purchase a new appliance, they can still bring their old tools in.

"People can feel free to come down and donate a tool even if they don't want to purchase a new one," she says. "We'll always take donations to give to the Rowan House even if they just have some old appliances sitting under the sink in their bathroom."

Hair appliances can be anything including curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, crimpers, etc. no matter how old they are.

Any broken appliances that are brought in will be recycled.

Wattman says it feels great to be able to give back.

"It is my favourite event that we do every year. The box we have here at the salon gets filled right to the top and I love giving them to the Rowan House. It's a really great event and like I said it's my favourite promotion that we have every year just because we get to give back to the community here."

The trade-in event is on until the end of June.
