With tinder dry conditions continuing in the area, more restrictions to prevent wildfires have been put in place.

In addition to the fire ban already in place, off highway vehicles are now also banned on the public lands in the Forest Protection Area south of the Red Deer River along the mountains and foothills to the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park.

Oneil Carlier, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry says the government is closely monitoring fire hazards as they reach extreme levels in Southern Alberta.

"Any fire that starts could spread out of control in a very short time, that's why we are taking additional steps to reduce the chance of any human caused fires starting."
