Looking to the future of High River is a big part of what rookie Councillor Michael Nychyk is campaigning on.

He won his council seat in a byelection about a year ago, and says now what he said then, High River needs to look ahead and not back.

"I come from a young family, we've got two boys, 13 and 10. I'm looking at positioning High River for the future. What can my kids have? What can my grand kids have? What is that future of High River going to be like."

Nychyk says there's still some things that need to be taken care of from the flood, particularly the southwest berm and the Centre Street Bridge.

He says recreation facilities are also a high priority.
