A number of charges have been laid against a Blackie man after a police pursuit involving the K9 Unit and Hawcs last week.

On July 28, RCMP responded to a report of two suspicious males by the Aldersyde Petro Canada after the owner of the station had called in a complaint.

Sukh Randhawa, Okotoks RCMP Sgt., says the two men told officers their truck had broken down, but that wasn't the case.

"When our member ran the plate it came back as a stolen plate out of Calgary, as a result one of the males was being arrested, and when handcuffs were being put on him he bailed. We had to call the K9 unit out to track the him, shortly after the dog found him, and he was placed into custody."

As a result of the incident Dustin Sklerek has been charged with possession of stolen property, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstruction.

He has been remanded into custody.

No charges were laid against the other male on scene, as he was not involved, and was cooperative with officers.
