High River's Manager of Economic Development says there's a lot going on in the town when it comes to small business.

Jodi Dawson says while business owners know they're out there,  not everyone else does.

"I think that's what's important to me is that we as an entire community have a really good recognition of how strong our business community is," Dawson says.

She says 63 new businesses have set up shop in the town since the start of the year and the town's almost back to the same level it was at before the flood in 2013.

Dawson says historically there might have been some people who underestimated the strength of home based businesses, saying it is shifting dramatically with new technology and it'll continue to be a more important segment of the community moving forward.

"The word that I would typically use is ingenuity, that ability to make things happen no matter what is something that we really need to celebrate in our business community," she says.

She says the key is to get the message out about what's out there.
