A child car seat safety clinic is set for Saturday Sept 17 in High River.

Corporal Blair Schneider with the RCMP says they'll also be doing vehicle inspections looking for certain items.

"Anybody that has a vehicle that has added something to it, usually it's exhaust systems, window tint, after market LED lighting, those types of things, we're going to be checking," he says. "It's to make sure it's legal and to hopefully prevent them from getting a fine, being charged under the vehicle equipment regulations in the future or having their vehicle towed off the road."

Cpl. Schneider says they won't be taking any action against violators but he hopes they take care of any issues to avoid future tickets or seizures.

He says motorists have a lot of questions about the after market car.

"Most of that stuff, not all but most is illegal and people don't know that," Cpl. Schneider says. "Smoked tail lights, smoked headlights, after market ground effect lights that light up underneath the vehicle, after market exhausts to make your vehicle louder, but the biggest one that we find on the road when we pull people over is window tint."

He says people often buy vehicles that way from a dealership, either new or used with tint and anything ahead of the "B" pillar is illegal. That's the pillar behind the driver or front passenger's shoulder. And, Cpl. Schneider says RCMP has the authority to have vehicles towed off the road that don't adhere to the proper standards.

The inspection, and child car safety seat clinics go from 10 to 2 Saturday at the fire hall.

They are free to attend and no infractions will be registered or tickets handed out, the clinic is meant to educate drivers so they can make the proper changes to avoid problems in the future.
