The cameras will be rolling in Okotoks as film crews have arrived to begin production of new movie in town.

The hit CBC series Heartland has seen plenty of praise in its ten seasons of filming in and around the Foothills, and now Okotoks is starting to see more film opportunities come their way.

Economic Development Specialist with the Town of Okotoks Alex Ross says you'll start to see some action Tuesday, October 18.

"It's a small movie production and the movie is call 'Global Meltdown.' The crew will be here for a couple of days filming up at the recreation centre for a few hours one day, and also at a couple of private residences."

The most significant film to roll into Okotoks of late was 'Interstellar' starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway & Michael Caine.

Ross says it's always exciting to see new ways of how Okotoks can be a viable option as a filming location.

"It's great to see that Okotoks is becoming more of a film destination and this is how we'd like to position Okotoks in the future."

Ross hopes this is just the beginning when it comes to film trucks calling Okotoks home.

"Our neighbours in High River and also the entire region are already involved in filming so it's great to see and we're definitely going to emphasize more of this."

During filming at the Rec Centre, Ross says no traffic or parking closures will affect those using the facility.
