The infestation of goldfish into High River's Highwood Lake in the Town's North end, looks to be taken care of.

The Town's Operations Manager Eugene Lund says it took more than one time out there to clean the lake out.

He says in 2015 they used seine nets and electro-fishing units to remove the invasive fish.

"At the end of 2015 it looked as though we had pretty much got all the goldfish that were in that four bay storm pond at that time. But when we did follow up checks in the Spring of 2016, we did note that there were some that had survived the winter there."

He says the Province approved the use of Rotinone early last year, which got rid of the rest of the fish.

Lund says they're confident they got all the goldfish out, but they'll continue to monitor the lake over the next few years to make sure, although Lund asks residents to let them know if they spot any goldfish in the lake.

He also reminds residents not to put goldfish in the lake, which is how they got in there in the first place.

Okotoks officials are still dealing with some goldfish in the storm pond in Drake Landing after residents there say they saw a big goldfish in that pond again this Spring.
