On Monday High River Town Council decided against giving an additional $50,000 to the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Centre. The Recreation Centre is looking to renovate Studio B, but has no extra money from the $700,000 that has been approved over the past couple years.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it's important to prepare for these expenses.

"Get it in the budget so we know what's going on. Don't bring it to us after the fact and think we're just going to slip everything in because you can get in a real spiral out of control when those things start to happen. So, it's got to go through the process properly so we know what's going on"

He says they need to take a good look at where the money is going.

"This has been looked at for a couple of years now, and then to come back and ask us for $50,000 for that studio, I think we've got to take a little better look as to really what that money's being used for and how that's going. And it actually should have come into this year's bidguet if they needed that money."

Snodgrass says there are a number of things that need to happen at the recreation centre, but things need to go through the proper channels. He says another example of this is the sound system at the recreation centre.

"It's embarrassing actually, when we've got the Flyers and these big tournaments that are coming in, being there and we've got a sound system from 1968 going on in there. It's not good. And the hockey guys had asked me about $25,000 for the new sound system and it wasn't in this year's budget so we had to say no to it. This I treat exactly the same."

Council has asked for these capital requests to be brought into the 2017 budget process next year.
